MEDIA RELEASE

The status of the COVID-19 virus is changing rapidly. We encourage residents to continue to seek information from credible sources regarding the spread of this virus and public safety. The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark Health Unit and the Ministry of Health are making regular updates to their website to share the most recent information on how to protect yourself, your community and what to do should you experience symptoms related to the virus.

The Health Unit reports on March 16th:
“While the risk continues to be low at this point in Leeds, Grenville and Lanark area, the presence of the virus among people in Ottawa and in the States to the south increases the risk that someone could bring the virus in to our area. Early symptoms are mild so people may not realize they have the virus.”

Effective March 17th, our recreation facilities, including the Spencerville Arena, Ingredion Centre, Johnstown Community Centre and the Upstairs Community Room in our Townhall will be closed to help slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus and lessen the strain on our health care system. The closure affects all activities in our recreation centres, including the walking track, public skating and hall rentals. We will continue to monitor information from health care professionals to determine when our recreation facilities will reopen, however residents should expect facilities to be closed until April 6th.

The Spencerville and Cardinal Libraries are currently closed. Residents should expect both branches to be closed until April 6th. The Library Board will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments as necessary.

The Township of Edwardsburgh Cardinal has set up a dedicated webpage to township service updates during the COVID-19 pandemic so that residents can easily find any changes or new information related to township operations and services. Please visit us at www.twpec.ca/covid19.
