Canal Beautification Project

Phase 1: vegetation management

Vegetation management along the Cardinal Canal is nearing completion.

Crews have removed overgrown brush, vines and select vegetation from the canal embankment to the water's edge, helping to restore the canal corridor and improve access for future maintenance.

As this phase wraps up, topsoil and seeding will be completed in areas impacted by the work.

Phase 2: planning future improvements

Following the vegetation management work, the Township will begin planning the next phase of the project through the Canal Beautification Ad Hoc Steering Committee.

Applications for the Canal Beautification Ad Hoc Steering Committee closed on September 10, 2026.

The committee will support the Township in planning and guiding future improvements along the canal in Cardinal following the 2026 clean-up project. Members will provide advice and recommendations to Council and staff regarding long-term beautification, public amenities and ongoing maintenance strategies.
