Cardinal Fire is Under Investigation

Early this morning, at approximately 3:45 a.m., the Edwardsburgh Cardinal Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Adelaide Street in Cardinal. Upon arrival, the structure was fully involved. The fire has since been extinguished.

A secondary, smaller fire occurred shortly afterward at the Cardinal Fire Station and was quickly extinguished by Township firefighters. One Township vehicle was stolen during the incident and has since been recovered.

The Township has requested the assistance of the Ontario Fire Marshal to investigate the cause of the fires. The OPP and Fire Department remain on scene as part of the ongoing investigation.

The OPP have shared that one individual is in custody in connection with the incidents.

Adelaide Street between Dishaw Street and Walker Street remains closed for fire operations. Residents are asked to avoid the area until further notice. View our road construction page for updates to road closures.

The Township thanks our local firefighters and OPP for their rapid and professional response.

Township updates, if available, will be shared here on the Township’s website.
