Notice of Roadside Spraying and Pesticide Use

The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville has issued a public notice regarding roadside spraying and pesticide use to control Wild Parsnip and noxious weeds for select County and Township roads across the region, including areas within the Township of Edwardsburgh Cardinal.

This pesticide use is in accordance with the public health and safety exception to the cosmetic pesticides ban in subsection 7.1 (2) of the Pesticides Act.

Timing

Spraying is scheduled to take place between May 21 and June 21, 2026, weather permitting.

Roads included

The program includes:

• Select sections of County Roads 2, 3, 4, 5, 27, 30, 32, 33, 34, 35, 37, 40, 42, 46 and 47
• Selected Township roads within participating municipalities, including Edwardsburgh Cardinal
• All County guide rails (except those within Rideau Lakes)

Pesticide use

For roadside and guide rail weed control, the contractor will be using the following pesticide products registered under the Pest Control Products Act (Canada): ClearView Herbicide (Reg. #29752), containing the active ingredients Metsulfuron-methyl and Aminopyralid, present as potassium salt, Navius FLEX (Reg. #30922), containing the active ingredients Metsulfuron-methyl and Aminocyclopyrachlor and Gateway
Adjuvant (Reg. #31470), containing the active ingredients Paraffinic oil and Alkoxylated alcohol non-ionic surfactants.

No spray

If you do not want the unmaintained ditch in front of your property sprayed, you can post “No Spray” signs at the start and finish of your property. These signs must be at least 30cm x 60cm (1 ft x 2 ft) and be easily read from the shoulder of the road. You can make your own sign or the Counties have a limited number of these signs available for pick up at their office in Brockville.
