Story time sparks fire safety fun at Spencerville Library

The Spencerville Branch of the Edwardsburgh Cardinal Public Library was buzzing with excitement today as Fire Chief Brian from the Edwardsburgh Cardinal Fire Department dropped in for story time.

Children gathered around as Chief Brian read the book “No Dragons for Tea: Fire Safety for Kids (and Dragons)” by J.E. Pendziwol and M. Gourbault, a playful story with an important message. The book, along with a memorable “Dragon’s Fire-Safety Rhyme,” helped kids learn what to do if they ever face a fire. After story time, families stepped outside to see a real fire truck up close. Kids had the chance to climb aboard, try on firefighter gear, and ask questions about what it’s like to respond to emergencies. The experience mixed fun with learning, giving young readers an unforgettable lesson in fire safety.

The program highlighted the importance of fire prevention in a way that was both engaging and accessible for children, sparking curiosity and building confidence in safety awareness.

The story time tour continues at the Cardinal Branch this Thursday at 1:30 p.m., offering another chance for families to enjoy a story, ask questions, and meet the people who keep our community safe.

This book is part of the Library’s collection and is available to borrow.
