Test Your Smoke Alarm Day is September 28

The Edwardsburgh Cardinal Fire Department is joining the Office of the Fire Marshal in encouraging residents to test their smoke alarms on September 28 as part of Ontario’s Test Your Smoke Alarm Day.

A working smoke alarm provides the early warning you need to safely escape a fire. Take a few minutes to test the smoke alarms in your home by pressing the test button, and make sure everyone in your household knows what the alarm sounds like and what to do when they hear it.

Smoke alarm safety

Smoke alarms should be tested every month and replaced after 10 years of use. In Ontario, working smoke alarms are required on every storey of a home and outside all sleeping areas.

Testing your alarms is also a good opportunity to review and practise your home fire escape plan so everyone knows how to get out safely.
