Tri Municipal Christmas Food Drive Supports Families Across South Grenville
The Township of Edwardsburgh Cardinal, Augusta Township and the Town of Prescott are partnering again for the annual Tri Municipal Christmas Food Drive. This community initiative supports the South Grenville Food Bank and helps local families during the winter season.
Why the Food Drive Matters
Food insecurity affects one in seven households in Leeds Grenville. Almost one in three children in live in homes that do not have enough food. Many households must choose between groceries and other essential needs such as heat, rent and transportation. For some families, less than $950 is left after paying rent each month. This forces difficult decisions that affect health, well being and day to day life.
Food insecurity affects people who are working, living with job instability, receiving social assistance, renting or living alone. Rising costs make it hard for many residents to afford basic needs. Donations from the food drive help ease some of this pressure for local households.
Each municipality collects non-perishable food to support neighbours who are facing these challenges. The friendly competition encourages each community to gather as much food as possible. The municipality with the highest total earns the Christmas Food Drive Cup. In 2024, Edwardsburgh Cardinal collected a record 1,971 pounds of food and brought the cup home.
