Wall of Honour Tradition Returns to Spencerville Arena

On Monday, March 30, the Township of Edwardsburgh Cardinal welcomed community members to the Spencerville Arena for a special ceremony recognizing 17 dedicated volunteers from the Edwardsburgh Figure Skating Club, who were inducted to the Wall of Honour.

The evening marked the return of this important tradition after several years. Friends, family, and community members gathered to celebrate the lasting contributions of volunteers whose time, energy, and leadership have helped shape local youth programs and keep the arena a vibrant community hub.

Mayor Tory Deschamps brought greetings on behalf of Council, reflecting on the significance of the ceremony and the long gap since the last induction. He noted that bringing back the Wall of Honour is “more than just catching up; it’s a reminder of how important it is to recognize the people who quietly keep this community strong.”

The Mayor also highlighted the vital role volunteers play in supporting the arena, youth programming, and community events, emphasizing that their contributions help ensure opportunities for young people to grow, play, and belong.

Special recognition was given to Stephanie Summers for her leadership in reviving the Wall of Honour program. Through her dedication and commitment, the tradition has been re-established to recognize those who contribute behind the scenes. Summers also introduced each inductee and shared their unique contributions to the Edwardsburgh Figure Skating Club, highlighting the many roles volunteers have played over the years.
