Municipal Consent/Road Cut Permits
Before starting any work on a Township road, you must apply for a municipal consent and/or a road cut permit. This ensures road activity is safe, coordinated, and follows Township standards.
Note: Emergency work is the only exception and may proceed without prior approval.
What is municipal consent
Municipal Consent (MC) is official permission from the Township for a utility company to occupy space within the municipal right-of-way (ROW).
Only utility companies with legal authority to build, maintain, or upgrade their infrastructure in the ROW can apply. This authority must come from:
-
Municipal, provincial or federal legislation
-
A Municipal Access Agreement
-
A Franchise Agreement
When a road cut permit is required
A permit is required for any road cut or excavation on a Township road—including work in the road, shoulder, boulevard, or sidewalk—unless it’s an emergency.
This is regulated under the Township’s Entranceway Bylaw
Project standards and inspections
All work within the ROW must:
-
Be inspected by the Township’s Manager of Public Works or a designated representative
-
Restore the site to its original or better condition
Apply for a permit
