Port of Johnstown Supports Delivery of Battery Energy Storage Units for Skyview 2 Project
The first shipment of battery energy storage units destined for the Skyview 2 Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project has arrived at the Port of Johnstown, marking an important construction milestone for the project currently underway in the Township of Edwardsburgh Cardinal.
Representatives from the Township, provincial government, Potentia Renewables, and project partners recently toured the Claude A. Desgagnés, the vessel that transported the shipment to Johnstown. The shipment included approximately 70 battery storage units, which will be temporarily stored at the Port before being transported to the project site later this month. Additional shipments are expected as the project continues.
The arrival highlights the important role the Port of Johnstown plays in supporting major infrastructure and development projects in Eastern Ontario. Through its marine shipping and cargo handling capabilities, the Port helps connect local projects to national and international supply chains.
The Skyview 2 Battery Energy Storage System project is being developed by Potentia Renewables in partnership with Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation. Once operational, the facility will help support Ontario's electricity system by storing energy for use when demand is highest.
The Township would like to thank the Port of Johnstown, Potentia Renewables, project partners, vessel crew, and all those involved in supporting the successful delivery of this shipment. We also appreciate MPP Steve Clark and members of Council for taking the time to visit the Port and recognize this important milestone for the project.
